Elise Sandidge lives and works in Discovery West and is the creative force behind Birdsong Design House. Birdsong is a boutique letterpress printing company that specializes in services ranging from custom wedding invitations, wedding day design and production, to on-site installations.
Elise’s passion for design and the art of printing is evident in every piece she creates. The intricate process of letterpress printing, which involves pressing inked metal plates into paper with her 100-year old hand-operated press, gives her products a rich, tactile quality that digital printing can’t replicate. Her attention to detail and commitment to craftsmanship have earned her a loyal following, with clients seeking out her custom designs for their weddings, events, and personal stationery.
Elise loves living and working in the heart of the community, in a Terrane Mews residence. She said, “We really wanted to be closer to all of the activities that we love to do. And that’s mostly outside! The opportunity to have the studio in the ADU was a HUGE selling point for us.”
Elise’s ADU, a cozy yet functional space, provides the perfect setting for both her creative work and the business side of things. Elise says that working from home offers her the flexibility to balance her personal life with her professional one, making it easier to stay connected with her neighbors and community while still running a successful business. Elise’s decision to run Birdsong from her ADU aligns with the values of sustainability and variety that the Discovery West neighborhood is known for.
