We are proud to share Curtis Homes as our Builder Spotlight this month. With roots in Salem and years of experience building in the Columbia River Gorge, Curtis Homes prioritizes craftsmanship and customer service with every home they build. Known for a unique blend of quality, durability, creativity, and livability, their homes also reflect the company’s value of sustainability. This team is passionate about what they do, something we’ve loved seeing reflected in the homes they’ve built in Discovery West, and we’re sure you’ll enjoy getting to know them through our interview with Cameron Curtis below.
What do you like about the concept of building out Discovery West?
Discovery West has successfully created a neighborhood with the right blend of community and accessibility to the outdoors. We appreciate the attention to detail the Brooks Resources team spends on each home, helping bring consistency and cohesion to the neighborhood streets.
How do you approach the homes you build in the neighborhood?
Our team has some speculative and custom homes in the Discovery West phases. While we enjoy working with homeowners to bring their visions to life, we also love building our own designs and welcoming the right owner home.
What made you interested in being part of the Builders Guild in the neighborhood?
We are honored to be part of the Discovery West Builders Guild and be part of bringing the neighborhood to life, filling the streets with homes for wonderful families. It is rewarding seeing homes finish, families move in, and the streets begin to buzz with activity.
Why do you think the neighborhood is so popular with homebuyers?
The architectural beauty, accessibility to Bend’s outdoor lifestyle, combined with a small town neighborhood vibe has drawn many homebuyers to Discovery West. We also live in the neighborhood! For our family – we have two daughters and a dog, Matilda – we want to find more life balance of intentional family time and a safe neighborhood to raise our family. Discovery West allows us to do just that: we can take long runs in the morning, teach the girls to ride their bikes on safe bike paths, and throw the chuck-it for Matilda at a dog park. We couldn’t ask for a better backdrop to raise our girls!
Now that the neighborhood is starting to take shape, is it what you expected?
It has exceeded my expectations. I knew the neighborhood would be architecturally stunning, but I am blown away by the creativity every builder and homeowner is bringing to each lot. The split rail fences and dirt trails bordering the first phases have also created an ideal space for families.
What are some key changes you’ve witnessed in your industry/real estate/building/etc over the past few years? How does this give you a unique perspective?
It is no surprise people want to settle in Bend to enjoy the Central Oregon lifestyle. The area’s need for a diverse inventory of homes is at a record high. Our industry is humming along, keeping many sub-contractors very busy with a huge supply of work. This high demand is met with the impacts of global changes over the last couple of years. The slowing of the supply chain is a good example of this, as it has a direct impact on timelines and expectations in home building. Materials that were readily available a few years ago may now take longer to acquire or be more expensive. It can take more time and cost to meet the needs of our homebuyer, and communication is key right now for my team to continue building quality custom homes.
Anything else to add?
Our team is so excited to be able to be a part of adding beauty and thoughtfully crafted homes to the Central Oregon area.
