If you’ve never explored the Discovery Park Labyrinth – or even if you have – May 3 is a great day for a labyrinth walk! In honor of World Labyrinth Day, people all over the world will be walking labyrinths at 1:00 pm in their local time zones. The goal of the movement, Walk as One at 1, is to help create a rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next around the globe.
Those in our community, as well as from around town and the region, are starting to discover the Discovery Park Labyrinth. Tucked just off the trail in the park below Skyline Ranch Road bridge, the labyrinth was created as a place for reflection and connection. It invites visitors to slow down, explore, and engage with both the land and their inner selves.
With two entrances, it offers convenient access from both the east and west. Created with local Oregon mossy boulders, the labyrinth features a unique three-circuit pathway that winds through an outer ring before reaching a central focal point marked by a prominent, 400-pound mossy boulder—the perfect place to perch, rest or climb.
The labyrinth represents a collaboration between Bend Park and Recreation District and Discovery West, designed by Lea Goode-Harris and Marilyn Larson of Creative Labyrinths, and built by Botanical Developments. It was made possible through funding from the Bend Sustainability Fund. Together, these artisans have created a space that honors the natural beauty of Bend and is a nod to our brand of discovery.
An interactive kiosk that includes a “finger labyrinth” is located at the entrance to the labyrinth and allows the visually impaired or guests with limited mobility to experience the labyrinth in a more tactile way. Whether walking, rolling, touching, listening, or watching, the labyrinth is set to become one of Discovery West’s most engaging attractions.
