As we celebrate Dog Appreciation Month during April, there’s no better way to honor our furry friends than by acknowledging the joy they bring into our lives. Dogs have an uncanny ability to spread happiness, and one pooch who exemplifies this is Skipper, Discovery West’s lovable Spokesdog. With his wagging tail and playful demeanor, Skipper has captured the hearts of many in the community, showcasing the bond between humans and their four-legged companions.
Skipper loves nothing more than frolicking and exploring with his human companions. Here are some of his favorite ways he recommends you playfully celebrate your pup:
Discovery Park Art Corridor – This sprawling green space (soon to feature a labyrinth and new sculptures) is Skipper’s ultimate playground. Beginning right in Discovery West, the corridor’s paved path leads under the Skyline Ranch Road bridge to the Discovery Park dog park, 35-acre Discovery Park including its 3-acre lake. Skipper says this is a great place to socialize with other pups, making it a highlight of his daily routine.
Riverbend Dog Park: As a water-loving pup, Skipper adores splashing around in the cool waters of the Deschutes River. Riverbend Dog Park is one of Skipper’s favs, as it provides the perfect setting for scenic romps and refreshing swims. Skipper can often be seen paddling happily in the shallows or chasing after sticks thrown into the water by his adoring fam.
Muddy Paws: At the end of a fun day, it’s time for a little pampering, so Skipper heads to Muddy Paws Bath House, a premier destination for grooming and relaxation. From luxurious baths to stylish haircuts, Skipper emerges from this dog spa looking and feeling like a million barks.
Skipper, who is always looking out for dogs that haven’t yet found their forever homes, encourages humans to consider dog (and other pet!) adoption, to bring love and joy to his fellow animals. In Bend, he recommends contacting the Humane Society of Central Oregon and Street Dog Hero and, in nearby Redmond, Brightside Animal Center.
