A few weeks ago, we welcomed the very first family into our Bend, Oregon neighborhood! While this marked the beginning of building our “people” community, it was also a milestone for the City of Bend as they were also the very first residents to take occupancy in the newest urban growth boundary (UGB) expansion. The expansion, which was approved in 2016, included 2,380 acres of developable land equalling approximately 17,000 homes.
Local TV station KTVZ recently broadcast a story about the momentous occasion, and its significance to the area. In it, they interviewed Brian Rankin from the City of Bend, who said “This first home being occupied means a lot for the community – symbolically it’s the beginning of more [homes] coming online in the new UGB expansion area.” He said there are several thousand homes in some stage of production within the new UGB. As these homes come online, some strain on the housing market’s low inventory could be alleviated.
Discovery West is one of the only areas on Bend, Oregon’s westside that was included in the latest UGB expansion plan. Our proximity to many of the amenities that the region has to offer has been popular with those visiting the community, as our real estate partners at Harcourts The Garner Group Real Estate reported in this interview. Trail connectivity, dining and shopping close by in NorthWest Crossing, and adjacent schools and parks are just a few top positives that have drawn attention to Discovery West.
