As a certified FireWise community, Discovery West is focused on sharing information and education about Wildfire Preparedness Day (May 4) by reminding homeowners of the importance of clearing out any potential fire hazards near their homes. And here’s the cherry on top: FireFree is hosting its annual Spring event from May 3 to May 12 from 7 am-4:30 pm at the Knott Landfill, 61050 SE 27th Street in Bend. This is a great opportunity to dispose of all your yard debris for FREE!
It’s important to clear fire fuels (dead branches, pine needles, dry leaves, etc.) away from homes so the risk of wildfire impacts is reduced in neighborhoods.
So, grab your gardening gloves and get cleaning! You can bring everything from grass clippings to plant prunings, pine needles to pesky weeds, and even trimmings and branches! Just remember, no sod, dirt, rocks, stumps, or trees larger than 12 inches in diameter, and keep those plastic bags and other non-compostable materials at home.
Let’s make this spring cleanup a rewarding activity while keeping our community safe and beautiful! See you there!
Check out the FireFree website for free events in other Central Oregon towns throughout May.
