Get Inspired by the Women of Discovery: A Walking Tour Awaits!

Those familiar with Discovery West may know about our nineteen Women of Discovery; remarkable figures who have made significant contributions throughout history. We’ve honored them in various ways, from street names to banners, artwork and more. Now, we’re unveiling one more way we’re spotlighting these trailblazing women: the Women of Discovery Walk. The walk features bronze medallions, donated by the Discovery West Builders Guild, which are arranged below the trees framing the Discovery Corner plaza.

You can learn about each of the Women of Discovery, as each medallion features a short description of what they have contributed to our world. From intrepid explorers to groundbreaking scientists, these extraordinary women have changed lives and shed light on the world, serving as inspiring role models for girls everywhere. Ann Bancroft, a proud alumna of the University of Oregon, courageously faced harsh conditions to become the first woman to reach both the Arctic and Antarctica. British socialite Lady Hester Stanhope shattered societal expectations by leading an archaeological expedition in Israel. Bacteriologist Pearl Kendrick played a pivotal role in developing the whooping cough vaccine, saving countless lives.

To explore the stories of Bancroft, Stanhope, Kendrick, and other inspiring Women of Discovery, begin your journey at the corner  of Ochoa Drive and Skyline Ranch Road. Be sure to walk along both sides of the street to fully appreciate the legacies of these remarkable women.
