Six Sweet Ways to Pamper Your Pup Now That the Kids Are Back in School

Woof, woof!! It’s Skipper here, Discovery West’s spokesdog. With the kids back in school and the summer hustle winding down, fall offers the perfect opportunity to shift some focus to your furry friend. This season, why not indulge your dog with extra love and care?

My human family is amazing at taking care of me, so I thought I’d share some of the top ways you can make autumn special for your four-legged companion!

  1. Spa Day at Home

Transform your home into a pet spa with a relaxing bath. My owners use a gentle, dog-friendly shampoo to keep my coat shiny and fresh. I love it when they follow up with a soothing brush session to remove any of my loose fur and promote healthy skin. For an extra touch of pampering, consider a dog-friendly paw treatment!

  1. Take to the Hills!

Take advantage of the crisp fall weather and explore Discovery West’s trails or the NorthWest Crossing dog park and enjoy the vibrant autumn leaves together. A hike in the Cascade Mountains can be invigorating for your dog (and you!) and a great way to bond. If your dog enjoys swimming, a visit to Riverbend Dog Park in the Old Mill District is also a great idea before it gets too cold.

  1. Cozy Up with a New Bed

As the weather cools, dogs like me appreciate a new, cozy bed. Consider investing in a plush, heated pet bed to keep your pup warm and comfortable. Maybe even splurge on a bed with orthopedic support if your dog has joint issues, ensuring they get a restful sleep.

  1. Seasonal Treats and Toys

Fall is the perfect time to introduce seasonal treats. Pumpkin-flavored dog biscuits are my absolute favorite! They’re not only tasty but also great for digestion. For a fun twist, look for toys themed around fall, like chew toys shaped like acorns or plush toys with autumn colors.

  1.  Playtime with New Games

Autumn is a great time to introduce new games and activities. Set up a mini agility course in your backyard with simple obstacles or engage your dog with puzzle toys that challenge their mind. Interactive games like hide-and-seek with treats can also provide mental stimulation and fun.

  1. Wellness Check-Up

Fall is an excellent time to schedule a wellness check-up with your vet. Regular check-ups can help catch any health issues early and keep your pup in tip-top shape.

By pampering your pup with cozy comforts, engaging activities, and thoughtful treats, you’ll help your furry friend enjoy the season as much as you do!
