A Myriad of Mosaics in Discovery West

As you walk through the neighborhood, you’ll undoubtedly notice sculptures, medallions, mosaics and more – a true discovery of our many art installations and “discoveries”. Discovery West, ever dedicated to creating surprises that delight the eye, has been working with local and area artists since the inception of the neighborhood.

In Discovery Park, near the Skyline Ranch Road bridge, you’ll find the new labyrinth, a quiet spot for contemplation. In Discovery Corner, you’ll find the pinecone firepit sculpture and lovely mosaic murals by Rochelle Rose Schueler.

Schueler is a resident of the neighborhood, and a long-time, highly accomplished mosaic mural artist and founder of Wild Rose Artworks. She created the small pinecone inlays on the Skyline Ranch Road bridge, and this past fall completed the lovely Mechanical Waves mosaic in the plaza at Discovery Corner. This extensive collection of murals grace the plaza’s planter walls and seat walls, including those surrounding the fire pit.

Schueler drew on both her art and science backgrounds as she designed the Discovery Corner murals. The waves reflect the hydraulic waves of the Deschutes River, the seismic waves of the stratification of the earth, as well as audio waves. Speaking of audio, you can hear Rochelle describe her works in this audio tour.

Rochelle said, “It’s an honor to create art for the neighborhood I live in and love! Through my work, I enjoy translating nature and science’s patterns into abstract realities that perhaps transport the viewer to other worlds. My hope is that at the very least, the murals at the plaza serve as an inspiring place to sit and relax while enjoying the heart of our neighborhood.”
