Skipper’s Snowy Adventures: Fav Places to Play this Winter

Hi, it’s Skipper, Discovery West’s spokesdog! Winter is one of my favorite seasons, and I’m excited to share my top spots for snow-filled adventures around Bend. Whether you’re a dog or a human, these places are pawsitively perfect for a winter outing with your furry friend!

Good Dog (Rimrock Trailhead)

Known locally as Good Dog Park, this is one of Bend’s best off-leash spots. With plenty of space and varied terrain, just a few miles up Century Drive, it’s close to town and a perfect place for dogs to run and play in the snow. It’s a year-round favorite, and the winter snow just makes it even more fun.

Wanoga Sno-Park

Wanoga Sno-Park is a local favorite for snow play and outdoor fun. Located ten miles further up Century Drive, this spot offers a two-mile cross-country ski trail, maintained by DogPac, where you and your pup can enjoy the winter air together. It’s a great place for dogs to explore the snow and for humans to take in the scenic surroundings.

Mount Bachelor Dog Park

Mount Bachelor is the place for snow lovers, and it’s even better when you can bring your dog! Their dog park is the only off-leash area on the mountain and offers a groomed space for pups to run around.

Bessie Butte

If you’re up for a winter hike, Bessie Butte is a short but rewarding trek that offers stunning views of the surrounding snowy landscape. Just south of town, it’s one of the high desert’s hidden gems, perfect for a peaceful winter escape with your dog.

Discovery Park Dog Park

This one is a personal favorite, and it’s right next door! Discovery Park is perfect for a quick winter playdate when the roads are icy and you’d rather not take your car anywhere! Located in NorthWest Crossing, this fully fenced 1.6-acre dog park is a great place to run and meet friends close to home.

Tips for the Best Canine Winter Adventures:

  • Follow leash laws: Some spots are off-leash, but others require dogs to be on leash. Always bring a leash just in case.
  • Know your dog’s limits: We dogs all have different tolerances for cold and snow, so keep an eye on your dog’s energy levels and comfort.
  • Leave no trace: Clean up after your pup, stay on trails, and respect the wildlife.

Bend is magical in the winter, and there’s no better way to enjoy it than with your four-legged friends! So bundle up, grab your leash, and check out these amazing spots. For more tips on where to go with your dog, check out this article on the Visit Bend website. See you out there!
