Next Door Neighbor: Holiday Events Near Discovery West
The weather is colder, the nights cozier, and we’re feeling the excitement of the holiday season start to settle in. Bend and Central Oregon are host to some wonderful seasonal events and gatherings, but in the spirit of keeping things close to home, we’ve collected a list of some of our favorite local holiday events that take place close to Discovery West in NorthWest Crossing, on the Westside, or just a little farther away in Downtown Bend. We hope you find yourself inspired to venture out and join in the festivities!
Thanksgiving
- Not too far away, we get to celebrate Thanksgiving. If you’re looking for a variation on the typical turkey dinner, you might consider dining with Chef Jayce Clemmons at Tetherow for a decadent, delicious meal.
Arts & Entertainment
- Bend’s Tower Theatre has curated an incredible season of entertainment. While the list is extensive, a few standout performances you can enjoy are: Christmas with C. S. Lewis, The Nutcracker: A Child’s Tale, showings of several classic Christmas movies, Central Oregon Mastersingers, A Charlie Brown Chrsitmas, and so much more. Community
- A beloved neighborhood tradition, the Annual NorthWest Crossing Christmas Tree Lighting is coming next door on December 1, complete with an appearance by Santa, local carolers and toasty hot chocolate.
- In support of Movember’s campaign for men’s health, Cascade Lakes Brewpub is hosting a relaxed, social Pub Run from their Westside location on November 16. Join in, and enter your mustache into the contest to win $50!
- The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without a community Christmas Tree Lighting. This year’s event takes place December 2 at Drake Park in Downtown Bend.
- Bend’s Christmas Parade is another annual tradition you won’t want to miss! Happening December 3 through the streets of Downtown Bend, you’ll want to snag a spot early!
- December 9, Think Wild (a local organization providing a wildlife support system) is facilitating a free DIY Natural Holiday Decor Party at the Downtown Bend Public Library.
- The Pavilion’s ice rink is celebrating the winter solstice with holiday festivities. Those who bring a canned food item to donate to NeighborImpact Food Bank will receive a $6 admission price including skate rental.
- Join the Menorah Lighting at the Old Mill to celebrate the first night of Chanukah with the Chabad of Central Oregon.
- The High Desert Museum’s Winter Nights begins on Thursday, December 1st. Join the museum after hours to see the latest exhibitions and special holiday treats.
Holiday Markets & Bazaars
- On November 25, Elemental Eyecare in NorthWest Crossing is hosting a Homemade Holidays event featuring handcrafted gifts, baked goods, and more.
- Westside Christmas Market is taking place December 3rd this year, and will feature over 30 local vendors as well as a Kids Craft Corner.
- Tetherow’s Holiday Bazaar kicks off with a free round of Stanta-riffic cocktails, and includes a variety of local artists and vendors to jump start your holiday shopping.
- Another opportunity to support local artists, the annual Locavore Holiday Gift Faire on December 10th offers a wide range of goods to choose just the right gifts.
