As a certified Firewise Community, Discovery West is committed to spreading awareness about wildfire safety. With May designated as National Wildfire Preparedness month, and Saturday, May 3 as Wildfire Community Preparedness Day, now is the perfect time to clear out potential fire hazards from around your house, yard and neighborhood.
Clearing fire fuels—such as dry leaves, pine needles, and dead branches—can significantly reduce wildfire risks around homes.
The Annual Spring Firefree Event takes place at Knott Landfill May 2-11 from 7 am-4:30 pm at 61050 SE 27th Street in Bend. This is a great opportunity to clean up and dispose of all your yard debris for FREE!
You can bring: Grass clippings, pine needles, pinecones, leaves, weeds, shrubs and plant trimmings, branches and trees (under 12 inches in diameter).
Just remember—no sod, dirt, rocks, stumps, metal, trash or plastic bags.
Keeping your space clear is a simple yet powerful step in protecting your home and neighborhood. Let’s work together to keep Discovery West safe. For additional free disposal events in Central Oregon throughout May, visit the Firefree website.
And join us for this free community event: COCC Wildfire Panel: Tuesday, May 27, 6-8 PM at COCC Bend Campus, Coats Campus Center, Wille Hall.
